On the site, go to the heading "Sectors of Excellence" and then click on the link "Food" . This page gives information about why food-related businesses are so important to the province's economy. The page also serves as a tool for helping the government attract new food-related businesses to the province. Use the page to help students understand the role that government can play in encouraging the development of an industry.
This article on PEI's forest resources is quite challenging. The student activity requires students to read only the first four paragraphs. Some teacher support will be required. The information that students need to answer the questions in the activity should be accessible for most students.

3a) The quality of the forests is not as good today because people have already harvested the best trees. 3b) The amount of land covered by forests has increased from 30.9% in 1900 to 48.6% in 1990. 3c) Answers will vary; many students may have expected that forests were a diminishing resource on the island, probably assuming increased levels of logging. 3d) Most stands of white spruce trees will be clear-cut (logging in which no trees are left standing) in the next 10-15 years. Nothing can be done to save the trees since they would probably die anyway in the next 10-15 years. 4. Students may record ideas such as the following:
