Lesson 3: Multiplying Using Arrays

Goal

Use arrays to visualize easier ways to multiply.

Instructions for Use

Modeling Multiplication Facts allows students to model and solve a given multiplication problem using an array.

To use Modeling Multiplication Facts, click on the “recording sheet” link to print out a copy of the worksheet. Answer the first three questions without using the computer. Use the website to answer questions 5 – 8 by clicking on “New Problem” to cut an array into two smaller arrays. Find the products of the red, yellow and green arrays and type the answers into the white boxes on the screen as well as writing on your worksheet. To answer questions 7 and 8, click on “Make Problem” Click the arrows to make the arrays Write down the missing factors and the product on your worksheet.
