Instructions for Use

Estimation Contraption helps students estimate sums.

To use Estimation Contraption, estimate the sum of the column of numbers and input the answer in the field below the column. Click ‘OK’ to check if the answer is correct. Try the next question.

Estimator Four helps students to sharpen estimation skills.

Estimator Four is designed for 2 players. Each player tries to get four pieces of the same color connected horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. One player uses red pieces, and the other player uses blue pieces. Begin by choosing the ‘addition’ setting to start the game. Set the time limit to answer the question. Set the tolerance to determine how close your child’s answer must be to the actual answer. And set the difficulty of the problems – easy, medium, or hard. Click the ‘Start Game’ button. The first player clicks the ‘Ready’ button to start the clock and read the question. Input the answer in the text field and click the ‘Answer’ button. Answering the estimation question correctly allows your child to place a piece on the grid by clicking on a column. If the question is answered incorrectly or the time runs out, the correct answer pops up in a separate window. The game continues with a different question for the opponent.

To start a new game, click the ‘New Game’ button. To see how many questions each player has answered correctly, click the ‘Show Score’ button.
