1.2 Historical MindednessPier 21 National Historic Site The official site of the national
historic site of Pier 21: Gateway to Canada (Halifax). Resources include
teacher's resources and a compilation of stories written by immigrants,
veterans, British evacuee children, war brides, displaced persons, and
former Pier 21 staff and volunteers. The official site of the Canadian War Museum. Offers numerous articles, resources and a search feature. Also listed are current exhibits and programs. The official site of the Imperial War Museum, London, U.K. Site includes education resources such as: "What was life like in the Second World War?" This is an online resource that looks at different aspects of life during the wartime period, using images, sounds, and downloadable resources. There are descriptions of Canada's involvement in Britain's wars from a British perspective.
1.3 History and CultureCanadian Heritage - Government of Canada This searchable site is the official site of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This department is responsible for national policies and programs that promote Canadian content, foster cultural participation, active citizenship, and participation in Canada's civic life, and strengthens connections among Canadians. Topics include arts and culture, and diversity and multiculturalism. Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms This government of Canada site is a compilation of resources to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Included in the site is text from the charter and education resources, including curriculum correlations.
1.4 History and IdentityInformation Gateway to Nunavut This site is called the Information Gateway to Nunavut. It includes information on its formation, on-line volumes of interviews with community elders, business and cultural directories, and broadcasts of its CBC radio affiliate (see figure 1.4.2). About Canada - Government of Canada This government of Canada site describes some of the cultural symbols that establish the Canadian national identity, such as the national anthem and the flag. The site includes teacher resources. This searchable site is the home site of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (relates to figure 1.4.2).
1.5 Approaches to the Writing of Canadian HistoryStatistics Canada - Government of Canada This section of the Statistics Canada site has census data to assist students with research projects, and teacher resources including lesson plans, thematic maps, and population pyramids. This site of the Canadian Museum of Civilization has a wide selection of alternative Canadian historical narratives with students and educators in mind.

Video clips and thematic searches are available.
