2.0 OverviewAlberta: How the West was Young - Government of Canada Information in "Alberta: How the West was Young," is organized in three sections: Archeology and Pre-contact; First Nations and Metis; and Fur Trade and Mission History. The digital collection was produced in association with Canada's Digital Collections program, Industry Canada, and by the Alberta Heritage Community Foundation. Information is included on the St. Mary River site. First Nations Information Project The First Nations Information Project includes links to facilitate research on Canadian First Nations history, culture, and organization.
Royal British Columbia Museum - Totem Poles This portion of the Royal British Columbia Museum site includes photographs and descriptions of totem poles found throughout British Columbia (fig. 2.0.1). Can be downloaded as a .pdf file.
2.1 Migration and SettlementCanada's First Nations: Migration Theories This site of the Applied History Research Group, a partnership between the University of Calgary and Red Deer College, explains land bridge and transoceanic migration theories. Maps are used as illustration. Inuit of Canada: Inuit Pre-HistoryThe Inuit of Canada site gives a version of the migration narrative, and gives cultural background detailing how a migratory culture would conduct daily life. Has links to other Aboriginal peoples' sites. 2.2 Society and CommunityPaleo-Indian and Early Archaic Sites in Southwestern Ontario This site links to several archeological fluted point sites in Southwestern Ontario. This Aboriginal and First Nations site lists links relating to the peopling of Canada from the University of Alberta, the University of Manitoba, and the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Subjects range from descriptions of peoples and tools, to cultural traditions such as storytelling.
2.3 Economy and TechnologyHuron, Haida and Inuit Houses - Food —Simon Fraser University This site of the Simon Fraser University Museum of Archeology and Ethnology (British Columbia) gives basic information on the lifestyle, food, and housing of the Haida, Huron, and Inuit.
About Canada: Canada's Native Peoples—Mount Allison University This "About Canada" site, produced by Mount Allison University in cooperation with the Canadian Heritage Canadian Studies Program, gives information on Native history and additional Web links on Canadian Native cultures.

Vikings Discovery and Landing at L'Anse aux Meadows—SchoolNet This SchoolNet site has information, photos, and links of L'Anse-aux-Meadows.
2.6 Culture and IdentityMaritime Culture - Red Bank Reserve - Government of the Province of New Brunswick A site describing other archeological work near the Red Bank Reserve in New Brunswick. The site features a map of the region and describes recent findings in the area.
2.7 Continuity and ChangeCanada's First Nations - European Contact - University of Calgary A detailed site by the University of Calgary outlining the Aboriginal peoples' contact with Europeans and how that contact changed their way of life. Detailed maps, as well as links, are provided to supply further information on European contact. Carved in Stone - Mi'Kmaw Petrogylphs Nova Scotia Museum site dedicated to Mi'kmaq pictograms and petroglyphs. The site features numerous images and detailed descriptions of the images and petrogylphs sites.
