Organization of Advanced Functions & Introductory Calculus: Flexible Course Sequencing

Advanced Functions & Introductory Calculus allows teachers flexibility in sequencing the course according to personal preferences and school resources. The resource is organized around the different function types that students must be familiar with in the course. Because of this, there is a logical flow that moves from the start to the end of the student text. There are two possible paths through this resource.

Option 1: To study advanced functions first, and then introduce calculus, present the chapters in numerical order.

Chapter 1: Polynomial Function Models
Chapter 2: Exponential and Logarithmic Models
Chapter 3: Rates of Change in Polynomial Function Models
Chapter 4: Using the Derivative to Analyze Polynomial Function Models
Chapter 5: Rates of Change in Rational Function Models
Chapter 6: Rates of Change in Composite Function Models
Chapter 7: Rates of Change in Exponential and Logarithmic Function Models

Option 2: To begin the development of calculus sooner, present the chapters this order.

Chapter 1: Polynomial Function Models
Chapter 3: Rates of Change in Polynomial Function Models
Chapter 4: Using the Derivative to Analyze Polynomial Function Models
Chapter 5: Rates of Change in Rational Function Models
Chapter 6: Rates of Change in Composite Function Models
Chapter 2: Exponential and Logarithmic Models
Chapter 7: Rates of Change in Exponential and Logarithmic Function Models
