Quick Search

The Quick Search field is located just below the occupation titles display grid. Use the Quick Search field to display occupation titles that match what you type into the Quick Search field.

The Quick Search function can produce matches as you type, i.e., the contents of the grid display will successively approximate what you type as you type it.

If you begin by typing numbers in the Quick Search field, Profile will attempt to match the numbers with specific Unit Group code numbers. Thus, if you know the NOC CH Unit Group (see NOC_Training_Tutorial.pdf on this CD) code number for an occupation you want to display, just start typing that number in the Quick Search field.

If you begin by typing characters, Profile will attempt to match the display contents with occupation title names.

If the current display is Job Titles, Profile will match Unit Group code numbers or any text you type, with the contents of the Job Titles index only. Depending upon the speed of your computer, using Quick Search in Job Titles display mode can be slow because Profile searches through more than 36,000 entries with each keystroke. Once the Job Title you are looking for appears in the grid display, click on the row of the Job Title, and then click the Convert to Unit Group button to display the Unit Group equivalent of that Job Title.

Typing numbers or text in the Quick Search field in any display mode other than Job Titles, will cause Profile to perform the search against all Unit Groups.

The Quick Search function is commonly used to display a specific occupation title, and then to print a detailed report of its NOC CH Descriptors and Labels. To do this:

  1. Begin typing either the NOC CH Unit Group code number, or name of the occupation title in the Quick Search field.
  2. Once the title you are looking for appears in the grid display, click on the row containing the title.
  3. Then, click on the NOC Properties button, or just double-click on the occupation title row.
