Convert to Unit Groups:

This button will be enabled (activated) only when you click on a row in the grid while displaying Job Titles. It allows you to convert a specific Job Title to its Unit Group occupation title equivalent.

The NOC taxonomy (see NOC_Training_Tutorial.pdf on this CD) contains more than 36,000 Job Titles, each of which is associated with a four-digit code number. The four-digit code number attached to each Job Title is not however unique because several Job Titles may simply be different names for a single occupation title. Consequently, the 36,670 entries in the Job Titles index can be converted to 923 uniquely-coded NOC CH Unit Groups. The Job Titles listing is included as an index that helps you find a five-digit Unit Group occupation title by a name that you may be more familiar with.

To display the Job Title Index in the grid, click the Display Groups menu, and then click Job Titles.

Once you have found a Job Title in the index, you can then click the Convert to Unit Group button to display the NOC CH five-digit Unit Group equivalent of that Job Title in the grid. When the Job Title has been converted, you can then view all of its properties, i.e., Descriptors and Labels (see NOC Properties button description below).

To convert a Job Title to a Unit Group occupation title:

  1. Under the Display Groups menu, click Job Titles
  2. Use the Quick Search field below the grid to type a 4-digit code number or part of a Job Title, to find the entry you want. You can also scroll through the display using the scroll bar on the right side of the grid.
  3. Once you have found the Job Title you want, click on that row
  4. Click on the Convert to Unit Group button, or double-click on the row in the grid to achieve the same result
  5. Click on the Unit Group occupation title that appears in the grid (there may be more than one if the Unit Group contains sub-groups)
  6. Click on the NOC Properties button, or double-click on the row in the grid, to view all NOC CH Descriptors and Labels for that occupation title

NOC Properties:

To display the NOC CH Descriptors and Labels associated with a specific Unit Group occupation title:

  1. Click in the row of the grid containing the five-digit Unit Group occupation title.
