Unit 4: Family Law
CHAPTER 14: CHILDREN AND FAMILY LAW
E-ACTIVITY: ISSUES AND FACTORS INVOLVED IN WEIGHING THE BEST INTERESTS
OF THE CHILD (p. 428)
Activity: Rank Factors in Determining the Best Interests of the Child
When a child is involved in a separation or a divorce, ultimately the
question is “What is in the best interests of the child?”
How is this determined? What factors are considered in making a custody
decision?
Investigate and rank the factors. Then present your rankings in a written
or oral argument.
- Visit the Justice
Canada Web site to see what factors may be considered in determining
the best interests of the child.
- According to the Web site, the best interests of the child take priority
when custody is being determined. What other issues are considered?
- Rank the factors in determining the best interests of the child from
most important to least important. Prepare a written or oral argument,
in which you justify your rankings.
