Activity: Create an Organizer to Compare Bachelor of Social Work Programs

What programs are available to students interested in the law, Canada’s justice system, eliminating social inequality, family or marriage counseling, divorce mediation, or a similar field? A combination of these interests might point many students in the direction of a Bachelor of Social Work degree. What are the features and course requirements of such degree programs at various Canadian universities?

Research Bachelor of Social Work degree programs and create an organizer to compare them.

1. Form a group with five other classmates. Within your group, form teams of two—each of which will investigate the Bachelor of Social Work degree program at one of the following institutions:
   • McGill University—School of Social Work
   • University of British Columbia—School of Social Work and Family Studies
   • University of Toronto—Faculty of Social Work
     
2. With your teammate, research the following about the program you have chosen:
   • goals
   • admission requirements
   • additional information
     
3. In your group, share the teams’ findings in turn. Note the results on the following organizer and compare the information.

   1. Independently rank the three programs in order of preference and be prepared to give your reasons.
   2. In your group, share and explain your rankings.
   3. As a group, briefly present your rankings and explanations to the class.
