Activity: Write a Summary Report on Seat-Belt Legislation

Seat belts save lives. Thus, current seat-belt legislation has been enacted with consumer safety in mind. Cars are now designed with increased focus on safety features.

Prepare a summary report on seat-belt legislation, its details, and support for seat-belt use.

1. To gather information for your report, visit Web sites for the following:
   
   • Insurance Canada
   • Ministry of Transport for Ontario—then click on “What you should know about seat belts” under “Road Safety”
   • Canadian Automobile Association—search with the term “seat belt”
   • Transport Canada’s June 1999 survey on Seatbelt Use in Canada
   
   
2. Visit the Canadian Legal Information Institute’s Web site to read the case of Galaske v. O’Donnell. Prepare a brief summary of the case’s results.



3. Write a report in which you summarize seat-belt legislation using Galaske v. O’Donnell as an example of its application.
