Activity: Complete a Youth Crime Statistics Investigation Chart

Every once in a while, certain elements in society will raise the battle cry against youth crime: “Teenagers are out of hand, and we’ve got to get them under control!” But is youth crime really on the rise? Are our policing and rehabilitation techniques failing? In this activity, you will dig up the actual statistics to answer these and other questions about youth crime for yourself.

  1. Visit the Statistics Canada Web site to find the most recent statistics about youth crime in Canada. Click on “Youths and adults charged by type of offence” and “Cases heard by youth courts with guilty findings, by most significant sentence” to find the statistical tables you will need to fill in the following investigation chart.
