Activity: Make a complaint process brochure

Human rights education is essential in the fight to prevent human rights abuses. It is important to know and understand your human rights in order to protect yourself from discrimination.

1. Visit the Canadian Human Rights Commission Web site. Use information from this site to prepare a brochure that highlights the following information about the complaint process:
   
   • What is the purpose of the Canadian Human Rights Act?
   • Who can file a complaint under the CHRC?
   • What is the role of the investigator?
   • What options are available to resolve the dispute?
   • What possible outcomes are available if the Tribunal rules there has been discrimination?
   • Should individuals be afraid of retaliation if they file a human rights complaint?
     
     
2. Select one example from the cases identified as “Real Examples of Restored Rights.” Briefly summarize the issue and the result. Include it in your brochure as an example of a complaint resolved by the CHRC.
3. Visit the “What's New” section of the Web site and summarize a case currently before the CHRC. Include it in your brochure.
