Activity: Report on Two Administrative Boards

Were you aware that the federal, provincial, and territorial governments have various administrative boards that regulate your affairs? These boards govern the relationship between citizens and government. They have the right to make decisions in areas such as granting licenses and awarding compensation.

1. The CRTC and the CEIC are two federal administrative boards. Visit the CRTC Web site and read "About the CRTC" and "Mandate."

   Then browse the CEIC Web site.

   Write a short report comparing the CRTC and the CEIC. Make sure you include the following information:

   • the full name of the administrative board
   • who it regulates
   • its role and responsibilities
   • the specific legislation from which it gets its authority
     
     
2. Administrative boards have also been set up by provincial and territorial governments. Visit the Web site of your provincial or territorial workers' compensation board, and find the following information:
   
   
   • What is the name of the workers' compensation board in your area?
   • Describe its mandate.
