Business, page 125, regarding Seaman's Beverages. The
Globe and Mail April 4/02:
Pepsi Bottling Group Inc. is buying Charlottetown-based Seaman's Beverages
in a friendly deal that will see the family operated Prince Edward Island
enterprise swallowed by the U.S. beverage giant. Privately-owned Seaman's,
founded in 1939 by Francis Rundell Seaman, promotes itself as using family
recipes to make soft drinks "the olde fashioned wayin small
batches and glass bottles." Financial details of the deal were not
disclosed, and the deal is scheduled to close in May. Pepsi Bottling Group,
which is 40% owned by PepsiCo Inc., generates nearly $8 billion U.S. in
annual sales.
