The Plan Hardiness Zones site from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada outlines the different zones in Canada where various types of trees, shrubs and flowers will most likely survive. The map is based on variables including minimum winter temperatures, length of the frost-free period, summer rainfall, maximum temperatures, snow cover, January rainfall and maximum wind speed.
This Web site is packed with information. "Sam Rapid" video clips give quick facts about wildlife, things to do, and industries near the river. Detailed facts and figures, and information about the natural environment, fish and wildlife, outdoor travel and cultural attractions related to Canadian rivers are included.

This activity can be adjusted to accommodate different grades and learning levels. The organizer is designed to allow students to record one fact per Web page or many, depending on the amount of information you want students to absorb. The Web site itself is rich with information. Students could focus on just one aspect-for example, recreation uses of the Qu'Appelle River, or the Qu'Appelle River's wildlife. This Web site could also be used to work with students on note-taking skills. Click here to view the student activity. |
