Wonderful sound effects and photos enhance this site, which includes a look at the first contact between Aboriginal Peoples and the early explorers of Quebec. There is information in the form of text and photos on Quebec's archeological discoveries, military history, religious heritage, industries, and famous people. By clicking on "Map of Thematic Routes," and then the numbered routes, students will be brought to more links of interest.
The Virtual Museum of New France
This site includes a wealth of information about the beginnings of New France, as well as its daily life and culture. Students will be able to navigate the site fairly easily. Many of the presentations include descriptive text, primary source documents, paintings, and photographs of artifacts such as dishes, pots, pitchers, and jars. There is an excellent section on Champlain's Order of Good Cheer. An on-site activity, Pierre Boucher: An Adventure in New France, may be appropriate for students in Grade 6.
