| Post-Confederation Timeline |
This Web page offers links to a series of brief chronological summaries of periods in PEI's history. The site is an excellent resource for extending information in the student text. To encourage students to compare sources of information, you could ask them to identify facts on the Web site that are not included in the text.
This government Web page lists milestones in PEI history from 11 000 bc to 1997. In addition to the activity defined in the student centre, this Web site could be used for a compare-and-contrast exercise using the dates in the student text.
| Post-Confederation Timeline | |
The value of this activity comes from discussion opportunities generated by student reading of Web page contents, as well as the development of thinking skills required to discriminate between the importance of one event versus another. Encourage the development of logical reasoning by asking students to provide reasons for their selection of each event. Evaluating the importance of one event in comparison with another can be challenging for students. Completing this activity using a Think-Pair-Share or other group structure can help. The activity and Web page also offer the opportunity for a discussion on terminology: pre- and post-Confederation, as well as bce and ce (commonly used), or the abbreviation the Web page uses: bp (before present).
