Museum of Civilization  

What happened to the "Inuvialuit" people and their traditional culture when the European explorers, fur traders, and missionaries arrived? The Web page, "The Inuvialuit of the Western Arctic" traces the history of the Inuit in the arctic. The Web site provides photographs and accounts from the writings of explorers, fur traders, and missionaries who visited the arctic. An excellent resource that is easy to access.

National Library of Canada: Passageways    

This is an excellent, well written, and well-organized Web site dealing with the early exploration of Canada. There are lots of maps and charts as well as detailed information about explorers. Material on this Web site is suitable for students in grades 4, 5, & 6.

  • The student includes an appropriate number of dates/events on the timeline.
  • The information is accurate and events are concisely described.
  • The student's explanation of choices made in creating the timeline show an ability to focus the topic and include only the most relevant information.
