The Interior
Plains: Settlers and Settlement
Web Links
These Web
sites will provide you with background information.
Web Links
The
History of Alberta
The governments of the provinces that make up the
Interior Plains-Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the Northwest Territories-all
provide Web sites with valuable information for students and teachers.
This Alberta site provides the opportunity to learn about the history
of the province, beginning with the fur trade. Links take viewers to other
topics, including the history of settlement in the province. You may want
to have students log on to the other provincial sites to gather and compare
information about the history of settlement in the region.
The
City of Regina
Many of the histories of settlement on the Interior Plains are recorded
on a city's official Web site. The Web site for the city of Regina is a
good example. It provides students with facts about Regina and a look at
its history to discover how the city developed from its early beginnings.
Encourage students to search the Internet for other cities, such as Edmonton,
Winnipeg, and Calgary, to do further research and make comparisons about
different settlements in the region.
