Lesson 4 - Solve Problems Using a Table of Values

Use the following interactive activities to encourage your child to have fun on the Web while learning how to solve problems using a table of values.

Goal

Use a table of values to solve patterning problems.

Builds Upon

Student Book pages 134-137

Instructions for Use

Table of Values prompts your child to create and analyze number sequences in a table of values.

To use Table of Values, enter the initial value for either a pattern that uses addition or multiplication in the additive model or multiplicative model text box. Then input the constant amount in the text box below the initial value. Click the "Calculate" button to view the table of values. (A new window will appear, displaying the table of values.) Change the initial value and the constant amount to create tables of values for other number sequences.

Matchstick Sequencing helps your child solve patterning problems by finding the relationship between the number of matchsticks and the pattern sequence.

To use Matchstick Sequencing, read the question at the top of the screen, and note the three matchstick patterns. Drag and drop the matchsticks from the left hand side into the workspace to make the next matchstick pattern in the sequence.

Click the "Next" button to begin a new pattern. Click the "Worksheet" button for a printable version of each question.
