Lesson 7 - Symmetrical DesignsTo encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about Symmetrical Designs, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs. GoalCreate symmetrical designs. Builds UponStudent Book pages 208-209 Instructions for UseSymmetry lets students create symmetrical designs interactively. To use Symmetry, click on the 'object' squares within the grid. Each square turns gold. To move the squares within the grid, click on the navigation button with the four arrows, closest to the grid. Click on the grid button to show the reflected image. To change the line of symmetry, click the star button. To reset the grid, click on the 'Reset' button.
The Symmetrizer lets students experiment with the symmetry in a kaleidoscope. To use The Symmetrizer , click the 'Play" button and move the mouse over the screen. To change the design on the screen, click on the face in the centre circle. To understand the mathematics of The Symmetrizer, click the 'How?' button. Move through the reflection activities. Click the 'Next' button to continue.
Symmetrical Designs prompts students to create symmetrical designs. To use Symmetrical Designs, click on the 'Random' button and a pattern of coloured blocks will appear. Have students reproduce the reflection of the pattern by clicking in the squares in the workspace next to the pattern. Click the 'Next' button to make the pattern more complicated. Click the 'Clear' button to start over.
