Lesson 2 - Tenths of a Set

To encourage your child to have fun on the Web while learning about Tenths of a Set, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs.

Instructions for Use

The Decifractator lets your child change fractions into decimals.

To use The Decifractator, input a denominator and numerator into the fraction space. Click the arrows to increase or decrease the values. The decimal equivalent will appear. Children can create their own fractions or use the quick fractions.

 

Numberlines lets your child investigate number sequencing and patterns of decimal tenths.

To make a preset decimal tenths numberline, click '0.1s' under the heading 'Create a Line'. To make a specific numberline, input decimal values in the 'Start Number' and 'Increment Number' text field and click the 'Go' button. Drag colour boxes to hide or reveal numbers in the sequence.

 

Comparing Decimal Tenths prompts your child to model decimal tenths.

To use Comparing Decimal Tenths, click to make a new fractions bar. Click to increase or decrease the size of the denominator. Choose with method to represent the values - fractions, decimals, percent or ratio. To show decimal tenths, make ten sections on the bar. Click the sections of the bar to show the decimal value of the sections.

 

Fraction Bars prompts your child to model decimal tenths.

To use Fraction Bars, click the 'Add Bar' button. Select the bar and break it into decimals. Show the sizes as decimals. Use the arrows to indicate the tenths as decimals. Add up to 5 bars to compare decimals to fractions or percents. To delete any bar, select it and click the 'Del Bar' button.
