Instructions for Use

Division in Parts prompts your child to divide units in different ways to form arrays.

To use Division in Parts, click 'Show Me'. This option lets your child explore the result of dividing one number by another by dragging the slider to the left of the grid. A dividend is given and, by adjusting the slider, the quotient and the remainder change within the grid in the corresponding equation to the right. The numbers below and to the left of the grid represent the number of blue boxes in the grid. The red blocks represent the remainder in the given equation.

Click on the "Test Me' to solve division problems. Use the slider to create an array to represent the division problem. Input the answers in the text boxes and click 'Check' to see if they are correct.

Beads and Skittles prompts your child to practice solving division problems step-by-step using models.

To use Beads and Skittles, begin by clicking 'Watch a Lesson', 'Short Division' to get an understanding of how the program runs. To try a question, click 'Solve Problems - Easy Short Division'.

Form the divisor with the skittles by dragging them to the workspace and dropping them in the green strip. Drag the beads into the cups to form the dividend. Drag the beads from the highest category onto the workspace to see how many rows can be made. Record this category and click 'Clear' to take away any beads that are shared. Exchange the remaining beads in the largest category by dragging them to the next category cup. Drag these beads unto the workspace to see how many rows can be made. Record this category and click 'Clear' to take away any beads that are shared. When the correct groupings are formed, the answer is shown.

Click 'Clear' to start a new question and click 'X' to exit the program.
