Instructions for Use

Base Ten Blocks allows your child to visualize the area represented by the multiplication with an algorithm.

To use Base Ten Blocks, click the place value backdrop. Click on a block and drag it into the workspace. Select a block by clicking on it. Once selected, the block can be moved to any location on the workspace. To remove a block, drag it to the recycling bin. Click on the tools on the top panel to select and drag, rotate, lasso blocks to group them, break larger blocks into the next size down, or glue smaller blocks to form the next size up.

Large Bead Frame prompts your child to practice solving multiplication problems using regrouping.

To use Large Bead Frame, click of the 'X' sign. Be sure the auto exchange, at the top of the screen, is clicked on. Start multiplying the units, tens, hundreds, etc. by sliding the beads across the work area. To regroup, auto exchange combines the beads for each category into groups and exchanges each group of TEN beads for ONE of a higher category. When the correct groupings are formed, the answer is shown.

Click 'Clear' to start a new question and click 'X' to exit the program.
