Lesson 8 - Subtracting in a Different Way

Subtracting Across Zeros prompts your child to use regrouping to make subtraction easier.

To use Subtracting Across Zeros, answer the questions and check your answers by clicking the box.

 

Stamp Game provides your child practice solving subtraction problems using regrouping.

To use Stamp Game, click of the '-' sign. Start forming the first number by dragging the stamps onto the work area. Form the second number by dragging stamps from the first number below. To regroup, combine the stamps for each category into groups and exchange each group of TEN stamps for ONE of a higher category. When the second number is formed, drag a box around the second number and double click in the box to remove those stamps. The correct the answer is shown.

Click 'Clear' to start a new question and click 'X' to exit the program.

 

Large Bead Frame prompts your child to practice solving subtraction problems using regrouping.

To use Large Bead Frame, click of the '-' sign. Start forming the first number by sliding the beads across the work area. Form the second number by sliding the beads back from the first set of beads. To regroup, combine the beads for each category into groups and exchange each group of TEN beads for ONE of a higher category. When the correct groupings are formed, the answer is shown.

Click 'Clear' to start a new question and click 'X' to exit the program.
