Lesson 4 - Communicate About Geometry Patterns

To encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about Communicate About Geometry Patterns, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs.

Instructions for Use

Geometry Shapes helps students make patterns using geometry shapes.

To use Geometry Shapes, click on a shape and drag it onto the workspace. Select a shape by clicking on it. Click on 'Name' from the menu bar, and click on a shape to find details about the shape. Once selected, the shape can be moved to any location on the workspace. Click on the other tools on the top panel to select and drag, rotate, find more information about the shape, or to clear the workspace. To remove a shape, drag it to the recycling bin.

 

Describing a Pattern prompts students to use math language to describe geometry patterns.

To use Describing a Pattern, arranged geometry pieces in a row to make a wall pattern. Count the number of different pieces and shapes in the pattern. Describe the order of the shapes in the pattern to a partner.

 

Polygon Playground prompts students to make geometry patterns and describe them using math language.

To use Polygon Playground, drag the shapes from the bottom or side of each polygon and drop them in the workspace. Make a linear pattern and describe it using math language.
