Lesson 7 - Estimating the Number of Objects

 

To encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about Estimating the Number of Objects, here are some games and interactive activities they can do on their own or in pairs.

Instructions for Use

Estimate the Number of Shapes prompts students to estimate and then count the number of objects on the screen.

To use Estimate the Number of Shapes, click the 'Go' button and estimate the number of shapes that appear on the screen. Click on the text box to input the answer. Click the 'Next' button to continue.

 

How Many Pearls? prompts students to estimate the number of objects in a container.

To use How Many Pearls?, select either the weight or volume method. To use the weight method, move the cursor over the scoop and pour the pearls onto the scale to see the weight of 100 pearls. Select what additional information is needed to determine the number of pearls in the chest by clicking on the multiple-choice options. To use the volume method, move the cursor over the chest to dump out all the pearls. Select the number of cubes that can fit in the chest. To determine the number of cubes that fit in the chest, click the link 'see how many cubes fit'. When you know the number of cubes that fit in the chest, select what additional information is needed to determine the number of pearls in the chest by clicking on the multiple-choice options.
