Dr. Hans Rollmann

Dr. Rollmann is Professor of Religious Studies at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. He was born and grew up in Germany but received most of his education in the United States (B.A., M.A.) and Canada (Ph.D., McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario). After teaching Religious Studies at the University of Toronto, in 1981 he joined the faculty of Memorial University in St. John’s. Besides teaching courses in modern Christian thought and history, he has researched and published widely in the areas of the history of biblical scholarship, nineteenth-century American church history, and the religious history of Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2002, he was seconded by the provincial government to direct the Moravian 250 Celebrations in Labrador, commemorating the first exploration of Moravians in Labrador. He is also an adjunct professor of Newfoundland and Labrador Church History in the Faculty of Theology at Queen’s College, St. John’s, and writes a monthly column on Religion for the St. John’s Telegram. In 1986, he was awarded Memorial University’s President's Award for Outstanding Research, and, in 2000, he received from the German ambassador to Canada the German Canadian Friendship Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to and support of German-Canadian relations.
