John Hannigan


John Hannigan is professor of Sociology at the University of Toronto. He attended the University of Western Ontario and Ohio State University, where he received his Ph.D. in 1976. He is the author of two books: Environmental Sociology: A Social Constructionist Perspective (1995) and Fantasy City: Pleasure and Profit in the Postmodern City (1998), both published by Routledge. Fantasy City was nominated for the 1999/2000 John Porter Award. He is currently at work on a new book about the branding of the urban landscape. In June 2000 Dr. Hannigan began a three-year term as secretary of the Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association.
