Rosemary Gartner
Rosemary Gartner is professor of Sociology and
director of the Centre of Criminology at the University of Toronto. She has also taught at
the University of Iowa, the University of Minnesota, and Brunel University. Co-author of
"Violence and Crime in Cross-National Perspective," which won awards from the
American Sociological Association and the American Association for the Advancement of
Science, she has published numerous articles, book chapters, and monographs on homicide,
crime deterrence, violence against women, and historical and cross-national variation in
criminal violence. She is the author of Chapter 18: Crime and Deviance in New Society.
