Monica Boyd
A former faculty member at Carleton University,
Ottawa, Dr. Monica Boyd, F.R.S.C., is the Mildred and Claude Pepper Distinguished
Professor of Sociology at Florida State University. A demographer and sociologist, Dr.
Boyd has written numerous articles, books, and monographs on gender inequality, changing
family forms, international migration (with foci on policy, on immigrant integration, and
on immigrant women), and ethnic stratification. She is the past president of the Canadian
Population Society (elected office), and a past member of the Canadian Advisory Council on
the Status of Women (federal cabinet appointment). A former member and chair of the
Advisory Committee on Social Conditions at Statistics Canada, she currently is a member of
the National Statistics Council.
