Unit 4: 3-D Objects

Section C: Building 3-D Objects and Structures

Use this interactive activity to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about 3-D objects. Students can try this activity on their own or in pairs.

Build and describe 3-D objects. [CN, PS, V]

Instructions for Use

Describing 3-D Shapes allows students to build, describe, and compare 3-D objects.

To start Describing 3-D Shapes, click on the “Shapes” link (the links are in alphabetical order and you may need to use the “next page” link to find it; around page 11), then click on the “Start the Activity” link.

To use Describing 3-D Shapes, click on 3-D Shapes, then on the “Next” button. Click on each shape to look at them in detail. Use the direction keys on the left to rotate the shape in all directions.

Note: This activity should be teacher guided and would be very effective on a SMART board. Have students build the 3-D shapes they see using marshmallows and toothpicks or modelling clay.
