Surf for More MathUnit 3: MeasurementSection B: Comparing MassUse this interactive activity to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about measurement. Students can try this activity on their own or in pairs. Goal Use direct comparison to compare two objects based on a single attribute, such as mass (weight) [C, CN, PS, R, V] Instructions for Use Mr Pip’s Fruit Balance allows students to compare the masses of different fruits. To start Mr Pip’s Fruit Balance, click on the picture next to “Mr Pip’s Fruit Balance” in the list. To use Mr Pip’s Fruit Balance, drag pieces of fruit over the balance baskets (or pans) to compare masses. Have students predict which fruit will have the greatest mass and the least mass then check their predictions by using the balance. Click on the “Sample Questions” button to see questions that students can answer by using the balance. Click on the arrow keys to scroll through the questions. Click on the “Reset” button to empty the balance and start again. |
