Section C: Number to 10
Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about numbers. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.
Say the number sequence by 1s starting anywhere from 1 to 10 and from 10 to 1. [C, CN, V]
Recognize, at a glance, and name familiar arrangements of 1 to 5 objects or dots. [C, CN, ME, V]
Relate a numeral, 1 to 10, to its respective quantity. [CN, R, V]
Represent and describe numbers, 2 to 10, concretely and pictorially. [C, CN, ME, R, V]
Compare quantities, 1 to 10, using one-to-one correspondence. [C, CN, V]
Instructions for Use
Fishy Count allows students to identify and count sets to 10.
To start Fishy Count, click on the “Fishy Count” link in the list, and then click on the green arrow.
To use Fishy Count, count the number of fish in the picture and click on the matching number.
Comparing Amounts I allows students to identify and describe sets with the same, more, or fewer.
To start Comparing Amounts I, click the “More and Fewer” link under Kindergarten – Topics, and then click on the “Comparing Amounts I” link.
To use Comparing Amounts I, click on the “Learn” button to learn how to play, the “Practice” button to try out the game, and the “Play” button to choose between three different timed ways to play.
In Practice mode, click on the “Start” button to begin playing the game.
Click on the “More Than”, “The Same As”, or “Less Than” buttons to compare which side has more coloured blocks. It will tell you if you got your answer correct in the text bar just below the buttons.
Click on the “Report Totals” button to get a separate report on your score.
Higher and Lower allows students to compare and order set and numbers.
To start Higher and Lower, click on the “Higher and Lower – reveal the order” link in the list. Then click on the “Objects to 10” or “Numbers to 10” button.
To use Higher and Lower, click on each card to show its number (or object). Once all cards have been revealed, click on the “Order” button. Drag the cards in order from lowest to highest, and click on the “Check” button to verify that you did it correctly.
Click on the “New Numbers” button (or “New Objects”) to play again.
