Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about data analysis. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

**Instructions for Use**

**Graphs and Charts** allows students to create five different types of graphs, depending on the data they are using.

You can create five different types of graphs in this activity. Think of two sets of data that you want to graph, and then decide which type of graph would best represent each set of data.

Create your first graph. Explain why the type of graph your chose was an appropriate way to represent this information.

Create your second graph. Explain why the type of graph your chose was an appropriate way to represent this information.

**Bar Graph** allows students to create a bar graph using any data they wish.

Take a look at the bar graph, then change the data to alter the bar graph. Try altering the data values as well as the number scale for the y axis. Why is a bar graph an appropriate way to represent how you spend a 24-hour day?

Try creating a completely new graph selecting “My Data” under “Choose data set”, then enter numbers and labels into the data box and click the “Graph Data” button to view your graph. Why is a bar graph an appropriate way to represent the data you chose to graph?

**Fun and Sun Rent-a-Car** allows students to create four graphs, to compare and interpret.

Read through the problem, and, using pencil and paper, create four graphs that represent your four options. Answer the “Analyze the Graph” questions. Also explain why the type of graph that you used is appropriate for representing this data.
