Lesson 1: Drawing Views of Cube Structures

Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about 3-D geometry. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

Goal
Use grid paper to draw top, front and side views of a cube structure.

Instructions for Use

Colouring Sides 1 allows students to determine what sides of a structure are being indicated by examining 2-D views of the structure and a 3-D model of the same structure.

Look at the 3-D model shown as well as the 2-D views of the same structure. Find the red sides shown on the model and click on the same sides in the views to turn them red. Click “OK” to find out if you are right. Click “Next Question” to get a new question.

Complete the activity for all 20 models.

Look at the 3-D model shown. Click and drag with your mouse to look at the structure from different angles. Try to create the four views that are shown alongside the model.

Then, find the red sides shown in the views and click on them on the model to turn them red. Click “OK” to find out if you are right. Click “Next Question” to get a new question.

Complete the activity for all 20 models.
