## CHAPTER 9: LINEAR RELATIONS AND LINEAR EQUATIONS

**Lesson 5: Solving Equations with Counter Models **

**Goal**

Model and solve linear equations concretely.

**Instructions for Use**

**Writing Algebraic Equations**

Read through the Examples of algebraic equations. Then, complete the Exercises at the end by selecting the algebraic equation that correctly represents the given sentence.

**Algebra Quiz**

To begin, select “Time Limit: 20 seconds”, “Difficulty: Level 2”, and “Problem Type: One-Step Equations.” Then click “Start Game” to begin.

This activity will test your algebra skills. Click “Ready” to get an equation, solve the equation, type your answer into the blank text box, and hit the “Enter” key. The activity will tell you if your answer is correct. Keep clicking “Ready” to get more equations to solve.

For a challenge go back to the main page, and select a higher Difficulty Level and various Problem Types.

**Algebra Four**

To begin, select “Time Limit: 20 seconds”, “Difficulty: Level 2”, and “Problem Type: One-Step Equations.” Then click “Start Game” to begin.

The game is like Connect Four, and the goal is to place four of your pieces on the grid in a row, either horizontally, diagonally, or vertically, and to prevent the other player from doing so.

You must solve a linear equation in order to take your turn.

Click “Ready” to start the timer. Solve the equation, type in your answer, click “Answer” and then choose the column you want your piece to be placed in.
