Instructions for Use
Catch the Fly allows students to practice finding the coordinates of a point on a grid.
To use Catch the Fly, click the fly button. A fly will come and land on a point on the grid. Type the x and y values of the point in the blank text boxes and hit enter or click “Go” to help a frog catch the fly. Click the fly button to get another point on the grid.
Stock the Shelves allows students to practice finding a point on a grid, when given the coordinates.
To play Stock the Shelves, read the instructions and then click the “Play Now” button. Click “Next” and then “Play”. You are a store clerk and you must stock the shelves with pop bottles. Coordinates for a location will appear and you have to click on the correct location on the grid. The game is a race against time, and you must stock all 20 bottles quickly in order to be able to open the store on time.
Maze Game allows students to use their knowledge of coordinates.
To play the Maze Game, read the instructions and then click on the “Activity” tab along the top. Type coordinates into the X and Y text boxes at the bottom and click the “Go” button to move the robot towards the target location. Be careful that the path of your coordinates does go through a mine. Try checking “yes” at the top to randomize the position of the robot and the target location to make the game more challenging.
