## CHAPTER 10: PROBABILITY

### Lesson 3: Probability of Independent Events

Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about probability. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

Goal
Determine probability by identifying the sample space.

Instructions for Use

Two Colours allows students to conduct an experiment in which the outcomes are dependent.

You will be shown three boxes. Click on the first box. Is the marble red or green? How does this change the probability that the next marble will be red? How does this change the probability that the next marble will be green? Figure out the probability of the next marble being red. Figure out the probability of the next marble being green. Then click the next box. Again figure out what is the probability that the next marble will be red and what is the probability that it will be green.

Continue in this way until you have revealed all 6 balls, keeping in mind the sample size and how many green or red balls you have already revealed. Each time you reveal a ball, is the outcome independent or dependent. Explain why.
