CHAPTER 10: PROBABILITY

Lesson 6: Comparing Theoretical and Experimental Probabilities

Goal
Compare theoretical and experimental probability for two independent events.

Instructions for Use

Adjustable Spinner

Use this online, interactive spinner to compare experimental and theoretical probability. Create a different spinner and do the experiment again.

Probability Spinner

Use this site to conduct a variety of spinner experiments. Compare the experimental probability

Two Colours

You will be shown three boxes. Click on the first box. Is the marble red or green? How does this change the probability that the next marble will be red? How does this change the probability that the next marble will be green? Figure out the probability of the next marble being red. Figure out the probability of the next marble being green. Then click the next box. Again figure out what is the probability that the next marble will be red and what is the probability that it will be green.

Continue in this way until you have revealed all 6 balls, keeping in mind the sample size and how many green or red balls you have already revealed. Each time you reveal a ball, is the outcome independent or dependent? Explain why.
