## CHAPTER 10: PROBABILITY

**Lesson 1: **Probability Lines

Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about probability. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

**Goal**

Use probability words to describe the probability of an event.

**Builds Upon**

Student Book pages 338–339

**Instructions for Use**

**Random Ball-Picking Machine** allows students to use a probability line to describe the likelihood of coloured balls being chosen at random.

How likely is it that a blue ball or a red ball will be picked? Drag the blue and red balls onto the correct positions on the probability line. Then click “Done” to see if your answers are correct.

**Why Can't I Win?** allows students to learn about probability using spinners and bags of coloured blocks.

Follow the instructions and answer the questions to predict the likelihood of some events.

**Chances Are** allows students to learn about probability using circle graphs.

Follow the instructions and answer the questions to predict the likelihood of some events.

**What Are My Chances?** allows students to learn about probability using spinners and to create their own spinner.

Follow the instructions and answer the questions about probability and ratios.
