**Lesson 5: Using 10s to multiply**

Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about multiplication and division. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

**Instructions for Use**

**Meteor Multiplication** allows students to test their multiplication skills.

To use Meteor Multiplication, click on the “start” button. Read the instructions on the next page and click “next” to read the rest of the instructions. Click “play”. You can use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move your spaceship and press enter to aim at the meteor with the correct answer. You can also click on the meteor with your mouse. If you are correct, the meteor will disintegrate and another one will take its place. If you click on the incorrect answer, the meteor will get closer to your spaceship. Each level is one minute. When the level is complete, you will see a screen with “What I missed” which will show the equation, your answer and the correct answer so students can learn from their mistakes.

**Calculation Balance** allows students to test a variety of multiplication facts.

To use Calculation Balance, select the type of balance you want to work with under the first row. Click on one of the green bars to test multiplication skills. On the next screen, you will see a scale, with a question on one side and an answer on the other side. Click on the up and down arrows under the answer to choose the correct answer. Press “Check” to see if the scale balances. Try another question by clicking “again” at the top of the screen.
