Instructions for Use

Bugs in the System lets your child construct and interpret bar graphs.

To use Bugs in the System, click on and read the “INSTRUCTIONS” and then click on “PLAY”. The new screen shows a room on the left with different coloured bugs flying about, and below that a sliding bar graph scale and “HELP” and “HINT” buttons. To the right is an empty bar graph whose columns each have a coloured button in their bases that matches one of the bug’s colours. Catch the bugs by clicking and dragging them one at a time into the column whose button is the same colour. Each bug you catch will show as one unit on a colour bar that grows every time you add a new one. If you drag a bug into the wrong column you will hear a “zzaapp” noise and the bug will return to the room. When all the bugs are caught you will have a finished bar graph. Click on “OK” to clear the next room. After clearing 3 rooms you’ll be shown their bar graphs and be asked to click on the room with the most bugs or bugs of a specific colour, or on “TIE” if no one room has more than the others. Click on “OK” to go on or, if you get it wrong, try again. When all the rooms are cleared you can click on “PLAY AGAIN”.

SAXON MATH Bar Graphs lets your child interpret bar graphs.

To use SAXON MATH Bar Graphs, look at each bar graph displayed and answer the question at its base by clicking on one of the 3 choices below it. If you get it right, a green smiley face and positive message will display. If not, a yellow frown face and “Try again” will display. Correct the answer to go on to the next bar graph and question. Your score is recorded in a box at upper left.

Amblegraph lets your child construct bar graphs.

To use Amblegraph, scroll down the central list until you see its name under “Graphs:” and click on it. Read the instructions at the bottom of the graph on the new screen that displays. You can enter any data set that you like and change any title or number by backspacing over it and entering a new title or value. Clicking on “Exit” will bring you back to the menu screen.
