**Builds Upon **

Student Book pages 176–177

**Instructions for Use**

Comparing Fractions with the Same Denominator allows students to practise comparing fractions with the same denominator by stating whether they are equal to, less than, or greater than one another.

Scroll down the page to the section titled “Practice.” Click “Start” to begin. Read the two fractions in the white boxes to the right and left of the screen, then click the button in the middle to indicate whether they are “= The Same As,” “> More Than,” or “< Less Than” one another. Two new fractions will then appear in the same boxes for you to compare.

Fraction Pieces allows students to model fractions in 2 squares or circles and then compare the fractions.

Click “Show Labels” in the bottom left corner. Click the second “Whole” checkbox to add another circle to the window. Click a fraction piece on the left side of the screen and it will appear in the window. Drag the piece onto one of the circles. Continue adding pieces of the same size to model a fraction. Then use the same types of pieces to model a different fraction on the other circle. To delete a piece, drag it into the garbage bin. You may also click “Clear” to start over. If desired, click “Squares” to place fraction pieces inside squares.
