Lesson 9: Solving Problems by Drawing Diagrams

Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about solving problems by drawing diagrams. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

Instructions for Use

Geoboard allows students to solve problems by drawing shapes of different perimeters. Note that measurements are in geoboard units, not centimetres.

Click on a blue circle beneath the word “Bands” and drag it onto the grid. Then click onto a part of the band and drag it to another point on the grid to stretch the band. Continue clicking on the band and stretching it until you make a shape with the measurements you want. Click “Measures” to find out the perimeter of the shape. Other shapes may be added to the same grid by repeating the process. Then click “Clear” to erase the shapes and try a new shape.
