### Lesson 2: Estimating Lengths

Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about estimating lengths. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

Estimate and measure lengths in centimetres.

Instructions for Use

Length Strength: Centimetres has students estimate, then measure objects.

Estimate the length of the object and enter the number into the light green box. You may then wish to drag the ruler beneath the object to measure it and change your estimate, if desired. Click “Check” to check your answer, then click on the blue arrow to continue to the next problem.

Estimating Metric Length asks students to estimate the lengths of lines, then measure them with a centimetre ruler. Note that some students may need support understanding what 1 dm means on the ruler.

Click “Measure” at the bottom right of the screen to start. Estimate how many centimetres long the line is and enter it in the white “Length” box. Drag the ruler below the line to check your estimate, then press “Enter” to check your answer. Click “New Problem” to try another problem.
