Lesson 8: Exploring 1000

Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while exploring 1000. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

Instructions for Use

Base Blocks allows students to build models of 1000 using base ten blocks. Note that students may need support understanding how to use the different blocks to create 1000.

Use base ten blocks to represent 1000 in different ways. Click blocks at the top of the chart to make them appear in the columns below. The number represented by blocks in the chart will appear in digits to the right of the chart. (It disappears when you have 10 or more of one kind of block, but that’s okay. If you’re unsure of your number, check with a friend.) You may use 1000s, 100s, 10s, or 1s to make 1000. To delete one of the blocks, click and drag it into the garbage bin at the bottom right of the chart. To clear the chart, click “Clear.”
