Lesson 5: Using Number Lines

Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about using number lines. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

Instructions for Use

Comparing Numbers asks students to compare two- or three-digit numbers on a number line and determine the nearest 100 and nearest 10 to the given number.

Click on either “2-digit” or “3-digit” to see two numbers on a number line. Write down or say the number which is greater. Then click on either “2-digit” or “3-digit” to see another pair of numbers.

To practise rounding to the nearest 100 or nearest 10, click “Zoom In,” then click on the nearest 100 to the given number. Then, follow the instructions to click on the nearest 10,  on the second number line.
