CHAPTER 1: PATTERNS IN MATHEMATICS

Lesson 6: Patterns on a 100 Chart

Use these interactive activities to encourage students to have fun on the Web while learning about representing patterns on a 100 chart. Students can try these activities on their own or in pairs.

Goal

Show increasing and decreasing patterns on a 100 chart.

Builds Upon

Show increasing and decreasing patterns on a 100 chart.

Instructions for Use

Number Patterns shows patterns on a 100 chart and allows students to identify the pattern rule.

Click the “Skip Count” button to watch a pattern develop on a 100 chart. Students should describe the pattern rule. They may want to record the pattern on a printed 100 chart.

Counting by 5s and 10s asks students to show increasing patterns on a 100 chart.

Starting at 0, show a pattern increasing by 5s on the 100 chart, and then click the
”Check” button. Then, repeat the process by showing a pattern increasing by 10s. If you click on the wrong number by mistake, you can click on it again to not include it in the pattern.

Looking for Patterns (SMART Notebook-Compatible) asks students to identify increasing patterns on a 100 chart. You should set this activity up for students. You may want to adapt the SMART Notebook file to suit your class.

Identify the pattern rule for each number pattern shown on the 100 chart.
